SimCity 3000 Site to Move
by Kevin Stange @ 12:46 AM EDT
Maxis has announced today that on Thursday night at midnight (presumably Pacific time, though this was not explicitly indicated), it will be relocating the SimCity 3000 web site to make room for the new SimCity 4 web site.

We can now easily speculate, with good reason, that there is a clear indication that Maxis is very ready to launch SimCity 4 within the next couple months.

Maxis intends to move the SimCity 4 site into the space at SimCity.com, and will provide a temporary link to the old site, for easy access. They also promise to set up a more memorable URL for the SimCity 3000 site as soon as they can.

Once SimPage.net gets word on this, we'll let you know.

Edit: The SimCity 3000 web site moved to SimCity3000Unlimited.ea.com

New Download at SimCity.com
by Rand Huck @ 9:51 PM EDT
It's about time for a new Maxis download at its SimCity homepage, don't you think? :-) The Yeongnam Jaeil-kwan building, which in real life is in Korea, is now available for download here. The building will only work for SimCity 3000 Unlimited, however.

I was curious as to find a site that would give me more information on this building, but to no avail. If anyone can give me additional information on this building, it would be much appreciated. With your permission I might even publish it on the site, giving you credit, of course. :-)

Santa's Workshop Contest: T-Minus One Week
by Tim Gowa @ 2:23 AM EST
Just a week left to enter the SimCity.com's newest contest, the Santa's Workshop Concert.

Here's a blurb yanked from the official site:

"You should build the best Santa's Workshop you can and you might win an EA game of your choice and a Maxis Prize Package! You can create your building in BAT, BA + or SC3URK. It doesn't matter to us as long as you have fun and submit a Santa's Workshop that even Santa would be jealous of. We would also like to take a second to remind everyone that there is one prize for 1x1-2x2, one prize for 3x3-4x4, and one prize for 5x5, so you can work big or small, it is your choice!"

You can read more about it by hitting up this link

It looks to be a great contest, and I'm looking foward to seeing a new batch of creative and stunning buildings (As always the case :-)). Now, pour yourself a big steaming mug of hot cocoa, bootup the design program of your choice, then get in the spirit and design Santa's Workshop!

SimCity 3000 Petition
by Kevin Stange @ 12:24 AM EDT
Tim Gowa posted a thread over at the SC3000.com Forums to inform people of a petition that Kevin B. (aka Lokey) has prepared for submission to Maxis and Electronic Arts.

The purpose of his petition is to convince Maxis and EA to return their focus to SimCity 3000, the SimCity series and its large fan community, which many believe have been neglected since the release of The Sims in 1999.

At last check the petition has received over 45 signatures, and gains many new signatures each day. If you agree that Maxis should be putting more energy into maintaining the SimCity series and its community, you can take a look at the petition for yourself, and sign your name.

SimCity.com releases the SCURK for SimCity 3000
by Rand Huck @ 6:06 PM EDT
This time, the "URK" doesn't stand for "Urban Renewal Kit", but "Unlimited Rendering Kit". It will act just like the SimCity2000 Urban Renewal Kit, without the "Place and Print", as I understand. You will need an external graphics program to create the buildings. All the SCURK will do is render them for use with SimCity 3000 Unlimited. You can find it at SimCity.com by clicking here.
