Guinea Pig Painting
by Kevin Stange @ 3:31 PM EDT
Sean Baity, over at Maxis just sent along a little tidbit from The Sims Livin' Large Expansion pack. He tells me that this is the text for the new Guinea Pig Painting to be included in Livin' Large:

"The Forgotten Guinea Pig"

When the house is warm and the food is hot,
The Guinea pig cries, "Forget me not."
Alas, some Sims may clean their own,
Only to forget a Guinea pig's home.

Hungry and cold, a pig feels no love.
Thus breeds contempt for masters above.
Expecting to play after many a night,
Who is surprised by the guinea pig bite?

Uncleaned, unloved, a pig's life means naught,
Like a child's plaything, it is simply forgot.
But warnings to all who turn a deaf ear,
Let the curse of the guinea always bring fear.

Please be kind to animals......

"Copyright Problems, Maxis steps in
by Kevin Stange @ 12:34 PM EDT
As of late, many simgames websites, notably Coaster's, blueprint, SIMply Dariene, and SimBabes have gone on strike to protest the illegal publishing of copyrighted objects without permission on various SimGames websites including SimCoRally.

blueprint has reported that all objects created with the object creation tool will be watermarked with the author and modification history. SimCoRally has apologized for its actions. Coasters has since closed, though they claim personal reasons for this decision.

Maxis has also released a statement regarding their Intellectual Property:
...there have been some recent misunderstandings between Maxis and our Intellectual Property enforcement people at EA legal involving the closure of some fan sites. We have since clarified our position with the legal department. In future, all sites with pirated copies of The Sims will still be shut down immediately; however, fan sites with content that is Maxis' IP will be shut down after Maxis is informed and has an opportunity to take corrective action with the webmaster.
We hope that all of these issues will be resolved promptly...

[(default)] The State of SimGames.net
by Kevin Stange @ 11:32 AM EDT
If you frequent The SimPage, SimEden, SimGames.net, SimGames Network, or a variety of other SimGames.net sites, you've probably noticed a few errors lately. The explanation of the current status is a little complicated, but here's what's going on.

The SimPage and several other sites are back up now after being down for many hours, while other sites are still not back up. The sites that are still down are located on the Nozone.Network server. The sites that are working are located on the SimGames.net server or the old Communitech server.

The reason all sites went down is that an apparent hacker attacked the main server at Nozone.Network and took it down. This server provides vital services to the SimGames.net server and without it, both servers were inaccessible.

At this time, the Nozone.Network server is running and providing its vital services to the SimGames.net sites, though the sites on the main server have not yet be restored. Hopefully, this problem should be corrected sometime today.

Games Domain's review of SimCityUnlimited
by Rand Huck @ 4:58 PM EDT
Games Domain gives an all out honest review of SimCity Unlimited. While he resents the crashes, bugs, and the "just small changes" complaints it still gives Maxis credit for making a good game a little bit better. Namely, the scenerios. Here's a little snipet of the article:

So what has Maxis brought to this World Edition of the ageing Sim City 3000? Not much, is the answer. New European and Asian-style buildings, four new disasters and thirteen scenarios are the chief additions and, outside the game, utilities have been included to design your own buildings and scenarios.

[MaxisEA] Two in the Top Five
by Kevin Stange @ 11:06 PM EDT
The latest from PC Data, for the week of May 21 - May 27 in the top selling game titles category shows the Sims holding steady in the number two slot and SimCity 3000 Unlimited moving up to 4th from 9th the previous week. Also notable, Who Wants to be a Millionaire 1st Edition has fallen down to position nine from five last week, though the 2nd Edition is still competing with The Sims. Here are the results:

1. Who Wants To Be A Millionaire 2nd Edition
2. The Sims
3. MP Roller Coaster Tycoon
4. Sim City 3000 Unlimited
5. Microsoft Age Of Empires II: Age of Kings
6. Microsoft Motocross Madness
7. EverQuest: Ruins Of Kunark
8. MP Roller Coaster Tycoon Corkscrew Follies
9. Who Wants To Be A Millionaire
10. Starcraft

For the same week, The Sims is holding 3rd place for the top selling software product overall. Only Millionaire 2nd Edition and Norton Antivirus sold more copies. SimCity 3000 Unlimited has also managed to make it to 9th place on the top selling software list.

SimMars.com Redirects
by Kevin Stange @ 12:39 AM EDT
Apparently SimMars.com has now been set to redirect visitors to SimsVille.com. Presumably, this means that SimMars is stopped for a long-term alternate project (SimsVille)...

In response to the "hold" status of SimMars, which may now put it several years off, The SimPage will be "hiding" its SimMars content. The SimMars ActiveList has been indefinitely shut down, as will the SimMars Surveyor Mailing list. The membership pages will be removed and the list will be "closed" until SimMars production begins again. All other SimMars features will also be "closed" until this time.

If you object to this "hiding" of the SimPage's SimMars content, post a reply to this news and tell us, otherwise I'll take the pages offline this weekend to clean up the site a bit.
