HomeSims' Interview with Will Wright released
by Rand Huck @ 10:46 PM EDT
HomeSims.com's interview with Will Wright, as previously mentioned, has been released. You can view the interview here. HomeSims.com thanks you for your submitted questions to Will Wright, some of which have been answered. And here is just a little notable quote from the interview:

Great graphics are a waste of time if the underlying game is no fun. I've spent many hours enjoying games with mediocre graphics and great game play. On the other hand I've spent very little time with the opposite.

[(default)] SimGames Chat Closes
by Kevin Stange @ 1:27 AM EDT
We've enjoyed serving you with a quality IRC Undernet Channel for the past three years, but we have decided to close the channel for several reasons, particularly that we do not have the interest and staffing to manage the channel and help users any longer. Instead we have chosen to concentrate our efforts to maintaining our prosperous ICQ ActiveList as a major community meeting place. We thank all who helped to make SimGames Chat possible, and hope you will join our ICQ ActiveList. For more information, click here. I look forward to seeing you there.

Interview with Patrick Barrett on SimGaming.net
by Rand Huck @ 1:33 PM EDT
SimGaming interviewed the Maxis Software Engineer, Patrick Barrett about The Sims Online, which is a new Cyberspace concept for The Sims. You can view the article here.

Here's just a little part of the interview:

What would The Sims be without Build, Buy, Live. The Sims live in a material world. In Online building and buying is more a strategy than a game play element as in the first two. Live mode is far more interactive since the other Sims are actual people.

SimPort closes down in 9 Days
by Tim Gowa @ 4:24 PM EDT
SimPort will be going down in 9 days. This site was a wonderful addition to the sim community and will be missed greatly. If you are looking for great content on any of the Sim games you should definetly visit this site. Adam Hughes (webmaster, SimPort) did a terrific job on all the cheats, strategy guides, and other content. This site may not have wiz-bang features but certainly sets a extremely high level of excellence (and probably never got half as much credit as it deserved).

SimPort will go down September 30, 2000 and will be deleted off of the SimCityHQ's server at the same time.

The Sims Host a LAN Party
by Kevin Stange @ 2:43 PM EDT
DarkNova, of WebVoid, has created an amusing little story about a LAN Party hosted by a group of Sims, complete with well-captioned screenshots. Click here to take a look. Here's the intro sent along with the news release:
LAN parties are a blast. Everyone brings their computer to someone's house, they network them together, and stays up late playing games, fueled by too much pizza and soda... But what happens when you try to simulate a LAN party in "The Sims"? Can they even survive?

"Bil Simser dispells some "interesting" rumors
by Kevin Stange @ 1:28 PM EDT
Following the loss of blueprint, Bil Simser has come across some of the most bizarre and twisted rumors about him, blueprint, and Maxis. He's decided to set the record straight and responds to some of the more common rumors on his website, including one rumor that suggests that he's simply Will Wright's alter ego. Feel free to have a look at Bil's post by clicking here.

The Sims have a new contest
by Rand Huck @ 1:08 PM EDT
A few days ago, TheSims.com's SimDay event was a new contest. They want you to create a story on Lot 2, using a plot that can only be done in Livin Large, so it should involve either the chemistry set, robot, clown, or the grim reaper.

Click here to view the rules and additional information. The deadline will be in a few weeks.

Next SimDay, they will release some new downloads: Jukeboxes, and more jukeboxes.

Livin' Large Tech Support
by Kevin Stange @ 12:57 PM EDT
Due to the recent technical issues that many Livin' Large customers have faced when installing or using the expansion pack, Maxis has put together a new Livin' Large support section which addresses these problems. You can check out these FAQ's which may help you get your game working correctly, by clicking here.

Please note, we have removed The Sims No-CD patch from The SimPage for several reasons. First of all, Livin' Large will not install or run correctly with the patch in use. Many users may also use this patch to spawn unlicensed copies of their game. Finally, The SimPage cannot provide technical support for problems, such as lack of sound, that are associated with the download.

by Tim Gowa @ 7:41 AM EDT
Over at SimGaming.net they have discovered SimCoaster, the SimThemePark sequel! Apparently overthrown by it's competition, RollerCoasterTycoon by Hasbro Interactive, EA will have to (and is starting to) focus more on bussiness aspects, in addition to making the rides easier to build. Different options for The Sims Online
by Tim Gowa @ 7:27 AM EDT
Sim-Games Network has just posted a news post about The Sims Online. The post reveals it may not be true online experience but it also may be. The post also reveals that having just multiplayer, not an "always on world" (ie, Everquest) can be fun, too! You can see the entire here

blueprint Is No More
by Kevin Stange @ 2:05 AM EDT
I am sad to report that the long awaited blueprint modeling tool for The Sims, is no more. Due to a severe computer failure, Bil Simser's tool will likely never see the light of day. He did the best he could, used everything he had to try to recover his losses, but to no avail. So, name: bluepint, time of death: Sunday, September 3, 2000.

All of us at The SimPage wish Bil the best, whatever he decides to do, whether it be to just move on, or to try again.

For more details, see Bil's official announcement, by clicking here.

Blueprint Module SDK
by DanielBaird @ 7:43 AM EDT
Blueprint a 3rd party object editor is almost ready for it's release but SDK (software development kit)is ready and available to anyone who would like it. Bil Simser the creator posted about this a couple of days ago and conformed that he had finished the SDK, it will allow users to program and create their own add-ons and modules for Blueprint. An example of this would be a stair editor in which you would input a small amount of data and it would automatically build a stair case. You must be able to programming in Microsoft Visual C++. Anyone interested can contact Bil Simser via his website (http://www.simbabes.com/blueprint).
